Our history

Nearly 200 years in real estate

We are very proud of our heritage, which sees our roots go back nearly 200 years to H.N Grimley & Son. They were first recorded as “House and Estate Agents of 13, Bennett’s Hill, Birmingham” in White’s Directory. Since then, we have grown across the country in stature and reputation. Today we are one of the largest real estate companies working throughout the UK and mainland Europe.

In 1998 we adopted the name ‘GVA Grimley’ and our expansion continued with a number of mergers and acquisitions. In 2007, we converted from a Limited Liability Partnership to a Limited Company, as part of a restructuring move that prepared the business for our next stage of strategic growth.

In 2011, the company adopted the shorter brand name of GVA to reflect a more straightforward approach to the market.

In 2014, we became a Bilfinger Real Estate company, allowing us to provide integrated real estate advisory and transactional services from a single source across Europe. Bilfinger Real Estate was the property division of Bilfinger SE, a global engineering and service group.

In 2016 we began the latest chapter of our history. Our UK business, and wider business division – now our parent company - was purchased by EQT partners, a Swedish-owned private equity firm with a reputation for investing in successful companies and helping them to develop further.

Our parent company announced a new brand name, Apleona, and we followed this with the confirmation that we would continue to be called GVA, offering the real estate advisory services for which we are renowned in the market. As an Apleona company our reach and expertise extends to clients across Europe and beyond.
