The first new-build AC by Marriott Hotel in England opened earlier this month. The 172 bedroom hotel, which has been developed by Axcel Group with feasibility advice from GVA Consultancy, is located in Manchester’s city centre, on the fringe of the trendy Northern Quarter.
AC Hotels were founded in Spain 1998 before expanding into Italy, France and Portugal. In 2011, AC Hotels and Marriott International formed a joint venture to develop the brand in new markets in Europe as well as the USA. AC Hotels are primarily located in city centres and target “travellers searching for a design-led hotel in a great location”. The product is design focused with “sleek, sophisticated European inspired aesthetics”. Key brand standards include simplistically designed bedrooms and 24-hour accessible lounges with places to work, relax, and enjoy a drink or snack.
The AC Hotel by Marriott Manchester City Centre has an elegant design that will appeal to the creative and entrepreneurial travellers and locals in this district of Manchester. The 172 guest rooms include 30 deluxe doubles and 35 family rooms, the hotel will also feature two fully flexible function spaces for up to 120 guests.
GVA visited the hotel at its launch at the Annual Hotels Conference in Manchester earlier this month and found the property to be bright and spacious with a hip, but relaxed atmosphere.
Oushan Deeljore from Axcel Group reported a very positive opening feedback from guests and clients on this new addition to the Manchester Market. “The start was very busy and our guests have been particularly pleased with the design of the hotel. The bar is proving to be a popular spot, especially with our interesting collection of Gins. Despite the preopening being a challenging period, we are very pleased with the way we have launched the hotel in a very quick turnaround.”
At present there are 157 trading AC Hotels worldwide and four AC Hotels in the UK: Belfast, Manchester (Salford) and Birmingham. The latter two were rebrands of existing properties. Marriott are in discussions for further developments in other major UK cities.
We are delighted for the Axcel Group and wish them and the team at the AC the very best success.
