GVA has been appointed by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council to act as lead consultant and project manager for the delivery of the Tunbridge Wells Civic Development Project.
Taking a collaborative approach to the project, GVA will provide a fully integrated range of services, including planning, development, compulsory purchase, agency and project management. GVA will continue to lead the Civic Development through the implementation stages.
The Allies & Morrison-designed scheme, which was granted planning consent in early May, will comprise a new 1,200 seat theatre, a 60,000 sq ft office and civic building, a 260-space underground car park and a new public square on the western edge of the Grade II listed Calverley Grounds.
Chris Dumas, Senior Director at GVA, said: “Due for delivery in 2022, the Tunbridge Wells Civic Development Project will not only help to reinvigorate the cultural life of the town and the wider area, but it will also benefit the local economy and provide the town and the Borough Council with much-needed new office space.”
“This appointment follows our previous work with the Council to assess the viability and oversee the initial stages of the Project. Therefore, the opportunity to bring forward and deliver this important scheme through a variety of our services is a strong endorsement of GVA’s capacity to collaborate and advise on the whole life cycle of an asset, as well as our work to date. We have a long track record in planning and delivering large-scale investments across cultural, civic and commercial sectors, and we look forward to working with Tunbridge Wells Borough Council to bring this scheme to life.”
