On the 23 June, 21 of GVA’s intrepid graduates will depart the comfort of their offices to climb the highest mountain in Wales overnight in aid of national charity partner, The Alzheimer’s Society.
GVA’s graduates aim to climb the 1,085m mountain, a popular summit trek by day-time, but at night a real challenge. The ascent will take approximately five to seven hours and the descent approximately two to three hours, covering a total distance of nine miles.
Talking about the challenge ahead of them, Corporate Responsibility Manager, Chris Whetstone, said: “This is first time we have organized a graduate charity challenge. Our graduates are incredibly excited by the challenge that lies ahead and the great cause they are supporting. Dementia is often forgotten by the wider community and this event presents us with a fantastic opportunity to raise money to improve the quality of life of those affected by the condition”.
Who is participating?
We have set the graduates a £10,000 fundraising target. With graduate hikers representing eight different GVA offices we are confident they will achieve this fundraising goal. However, this challenge needs everybody’s support to make to reach their goal so if you would like to make a donation, please visit the group fundraising page here or support one of the graduate fundraising activities in your office in the run up to the challenge in June.
About the Alzheimer’s Society
The Alzheimer’s society is the UK’s leading support and research charity for people with dementia, their families and carers. Together with their partner charity, Alzheimer Scotland, they are leading the fight against dementia across the UK.
We are currently in a two-year partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society, having been chosen as our People Charity Partner by our own staff. Throughout this partnership we are hoping to raise over £150,000, transforming the lives of people who live with dementia.
We would like all money raised fromthis graduate challenge to go towards supporting The Alzheimer’s Society, in particular helping the society recruit and train local carers who support those who have dementia.
