Tree identification, orienteering, fire lighting, cooking, wildlife recognition and overall team cohesion were just some of the activities our Leeds office colleagues took on when they competed in the inaugural Woodland Trust "Leaf Your Office" challenge last week... and won!
Our team, named Quercus (Latin "oak tree"), consisting of Richard Baldwin, Rob Oliver, Jake Pygall, Sally Thompson and Zoe Smith, pitted themselves against eight other regional teams in Nidd Gorge near Knaresborough, on a day long corporate and team building event. The day aimed at highlighting the importance of trees and a sustainable woodland environment in our everyday lives.
Delighted with the victory, Rob Oliver said: "After a close battle, it all came down to the following tie-break question: 'Over the next ten years how many trees are the Woodland Trust aiming to plant in the UK?' The answer was 64 million and thankfully we got closer than our nearest competitor and walked away with this splendid trophy. The Woodland Trust is aiming to replicate this event across the UK – let’s make our business the ones to beat".
A thrilled, victorious, Zoe Smith commented: "This was a great event to be part of and follows on from our Woodland Trust tree planting day last autumn. We worked hard to beat off the competition in a close run contest".
