Many congratulations to our four colleagues – Nathan Pask (Restructuring and Recovery), Cecilia Fellows (Valuation Consultancy), Mark Innocenti (Corporate Solutions) and Stephen Shapiro (Lease Consultancy) – who completed the London Marathon on Sunday and raised several thousand pounds for some fantastic charities, including our charity partner, the Alzheimer’s Society.
Here’s what they had to say about their experiences...
"Firstly, I'd really like to thank everyone for the sponsorship. We have raised £1,200 and counting for our charity partner, the Alzheimer's Society," says Nathan Pask. "This was my fourth marathon and second London marathon. The London one is really special as there are about 800,000 spectators, bands and sound systems, so it gives you a massive lift. The atmosphere is like a national holiday and the same families have attended for many years.
"I ran my plan and finished in 2:42:33. I was very pleased. It was an amazing feeling getting to mile 19 and knowing my legs still worked. If anyone would still like to donate, you can do so here.
"This was my second London Marathon too and it was very special and one I will remember for a very long time," says proud runner, Mark Innocenti. "The conditions were perfect, the crowds were electric and I achieved a time beyond my wildest dreams of 2:35:20. All the hard graft and early morning training runs thankfully paid off. Seeing my family and friends along the route really did spur me on and the camaraderie and atmosphere showcase London at its very best. Well done to the other GVA runners and thanks to everybody for their support".
This was Cecilia Fellows' first London marathon. "I have wanted to do it for years but have not managed to get a place through the ballot", she explains. "However, this year a friend got me a place with MS-UK, who are providing support to her mum. As my Godmother also suffered with MS I was really pleased to get behind the cause, for which I have raised £2,750 so far.
"I really wanted to complete it in under four hours. The atmosphere was amazing, with the high points being seeing my family at mile 12, and being serenaded with 'Oh Cecilia' a few times. I knew I had done it when I got to mile 23 with 30 minutes to go and finished in 3:57. It was a fantastic day".
Stephen Shapiro (pictured here with Cecilia) also completed his first London marathon. Stephen said: "Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout this journey, which I managed to complete in 4:08. The noise of the crowd and the atmosphere were amazing. I really appreciate the funds (over £2000 so far) that you have helped me raise for my charity ORT UK".
Well done to Nathan, Cecilia, Mark and Stephen on a fantastic achievement.
